The color is exactly what you see on the picture. They are not a smooth leather, they are suede. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is because they run large. I had to exchange for a half size smaller.

They look great with jeans or dress pants and and very stylish. There is no insole padding so may not be for someone who is on their feet all day (hence the 4 stars instead of 5).

The first day I got these out of the box, I walked a mile in them and had no discomfort, and since then they have become my go-to work shoes--I work in an office, and these shoes look graceful enough to go with my skirt suits, while also being comfortable and stable for the walking I have to do on the way to and from work. I am seeing more women's oxfords lately and am glad, but sometimes the manufacturers give in to the temptation to make the toe box narrow and cramped--just what I want to avoid. Another big plus, from my point of view: when I took these in to the shoe-repair shop to get heel taps, I asked whether this shoe could be re-soled when the soles wear out, and the guy said yes! This is a rare thing in women's shoes these days and means a lot to me. I do not have all that much confidence in the durability of the sole, which is not leather but is made to look like it.

I bought these in black and they are well-made, good looking classic oxfords. But the soles are extremely slippery, which as another poster mentioned, is great for dancing, but not so much for everyday walking around. I suppose I could have stuck non-skid traction pads on the soles or coated them with non-skid spray, but I'm not sure how well that would turn out, so I returned them.

Hope they weren't mismarked as I am sending them back and exchanging them for a smaller size. They appear to be well built and they look stylish.
