Filson Tote Briefcase

I bought this as a gift to my husband so it hasn't had years of use but it is rugged and beautifully made. It is not terribly large. Would fit a computer and lots of paper work but as a weekend bag it would be small. Perhaps perfect for an overnight trip. Can't be beat for the price. I am thinking of getting another one or two for my sons.

It was time for me to update my old briefcase. Filson has always made quality products and this one was a little bit different than most briefcases. I have used it a couple of times now and am very satisfied with it. Well though-out pockets and dividers.

If you like Filson's traditional, rugged outdoor style, and you need a high quality made-in-the-USA briefcase/bag that is a little different than everything else out there, then this bag is for you. I've been to their Seattle store, purchased a number of their products in recent years, and have become a fan. Like other Filson items, this briefcase is well designed, very well made, and uses excellent materials. I can also say with some confidence that Filson products like this are not available at substantial discounts very often. The combination of great quality, style, the famous factory warranty and customer service, and the price make this an excellent value.

As the name indicates, this bag is a combination of Filson's totes and briefcases, but it looks more like a briefcase/overnight bag to me. It is a substantial item, and some people might find it a little large for everyday use. All of the closures use strong snaps or buckles - there are no zippers, which I like since zippers are usually the first thing to go. Snaps fail too, of course, but are easier to replace. The top cover, front pockets, sides, and bottom are made from Filson's waxed tin cloth, while the front and back panels are made of heavy-duty twill. In otter green, the different materials create a subtle contrast in color and finish. You can enhance this contrast by applying a little Filson Oil Finish Wax to the tin cloth, which gives it a slight luster and maintains durability. I would also recommend a little high quality leather conditioner to bring out the richness of the bridle leather parts.

I prefer the otter green color too. Although the all-tan and color-block styles are very nice, the tan tin cloth develops a mottled, weathered patina over time that is very attractive but more casual. In addition, the solid otter green will never seem dated, which is a consideration since the tote briefcase will probably last many years. In the end, words and pictures can only do so much. Like most Filson products, once you have this item in your hands, you are unlikely to be disappointed.
