I bought one an extra 1/2 size larger to accommodate shoe flex. But these shoes are pretty stiff--you don't need to go 1/2 size larger.
I use these on my road bike. I don't wear spandex riding gear and I don't like most road bike shoes because it's awkward to walk causally around in them.
These are great for the not-so-serious road biker.
