My other leather jackets are winter weight & insulated with Thinsulate & wool shearling. I can wear it, and it's too hot. Or not wear it, and feel a chill.
This is an uninsulated jacket. It allows you the freedom of adding and removing layers, and to simply use the jacket as a lightweight windbreaker. In San Francisco, this is the perfect "just in case" jacket that you keep in the back of your car. I've actually rolled it up & placed it in my panniers, saddle bags, and back packs for hikes & day trips.
I've been wearing Golden Bear leather bombers just like this since I was a kid. If you don't outgrow them, a cared for jacket could last a lifetime. This same jacket is made for LL Bean and sold as a "Flying Tiger".
This is a reproduction of the popular World War II era A-2 jacket. Authentic? What's authentic? Government contract jackets of the era all varied slightly, depending on the manufacturer, subcontractor, and production lot.- Best Uses: Bad Weather, Daily Use, Outdoor Activities, Travel

5.0 out of 5 stars. Fonzie's JacketReviewed by Booty Time from The Left Coast on Friday, April 2, 2010Another reviewer suggested getting an LL Bean or Schott. Schott Bros produces an excellent product. No doubt about it. Their pea coats & Perfecto motorcycle jackets are some of the best on the market. But as for LL Bean, this jacket is an LL Bean. It's the same jacket. I've been to the Golden Bear factory and have seen this same jacket being made with the LL Bean label. Golden Bear, in addition to their own line, manufactures for other companies.
I have this jacket. Had it for over 20 years. Mine is still in great condition, and the leather will break in and get better with wear. Amazing quality. Stitches have not come loose. Fasteners still work. Lining is still intact. Goat skin has soften and contoured to fit my body like a second skin. I've worn this same garment on a motorcycle, in the snow & rain, rolled around on the ground fist fighting, crawled through deep brush......hunting, camping, fishing, auto repair......it's been put to test. I have no problem with buying another one and recommending it to a friend.
A final note is that this is not an insulated jacket. Golden Bear offers jackets with Thinsulate & shearling. This is not one of them. This is a garment meant for layering. You can wear it comfortably with just a t-shirt: like The Fonz - Ayyeee! Excellent half zipped for summer rides on a motorcycle. Or layer accordingly for warmth.
Wasn't this the jacket that Fonzie wore?- Best Uses: Daily Use
