5.0 out of 5 stars. Perfect for Cold Weather CyclingVerified Buyer Reviewed by Anonymous from Jackson Hole on Sunday, February 12, 2017I use this layer for bicycling touring in cold conditions. For active sports, it would be great anytime wind is coming at you head on. The back and all around the arms are mid-weight wool jersey fabric. The front, except for the arms, has an added layer of quilted wool pile insulation over the mid-weight wool fabric under an outer wind shell (think front only vest). There are two large open top cargo pockets inside and outside zippered "hand warmer" pockets. The construction is top notch.
If I add a standard cycling jersey under a Gore goretex lightweight wind outer shell, I am good with the temperature in the upper teens to the low 40s when pedaling a fully loaded touring bike at 12 mph on the flat in otherwise calm wind. And, I stay dry. The jacket has never needed washing during tours up to 6 weeks which is as long a tour as I have experienced since I got the jacket.
The only negative I can think of is that it is a few ounces heavier than some ultralight/thin down jackets; however, being warm when wet, having tremendous resistance to oder, and being merino wool so there is no need to wear anything under it more than make up for that.
