4.0 out of 5 stars. Merrill Fraction Trail ShoesVerified Buyer Reviewed by Dan T. from Adirondac on Monday, July 25, 2016I have just recently purchased these shoes therefore I have not used them extensively. ~ 2 hr hike up a mountain.
My review of the features are as followes.
These hiking shoes are a good weight for their features. The Gor-Tex was in my mind, not needed as it only compromised the shoes breathability and dry time, while I expect it will only delay my foot getting wet from external sources. The leather toe seems to be a good feature since the toe is a major abrasion point, though it seem unnecessary on the heal. The grip on the soul is excellent.
Overall the shoe has a good weight (Under a pound per shoe), has a good fit, and has exceptional grip. -
5.0 out of 5 stars. Sooo Comfortable!Verified Buyer Reviewed by Ski Demon from Lake Tahoe on Monday, July 25, 2016Surprising how comfortable these are right out of the box. Sizing is accurate, which is always a huge plus when ordering shoes online. I have not tested out the waterproof capabilities yet, but the ankles are cut quite low, so they certainly are not going to work for streams or deep puddles, or even long grass for that matter. It is like walking on air on trails and pavement though.

3.0 out of 5 stars. Low ankle doesn't let it stay waterproofVerified Buyer Reviewed by Ashish from Washington on Wednesday, June 22, 2016The only problem with this shoe is it's low ankle, which makes it impossible to stay dry in watery conditions. I used them only once even on a couple of inches of water channels I could feel the shoe getting wet from inside.

4.0 out of 5 stars. Exactly what I neededVerified Buyer Reviewed by Mendocino from Northern California on Wednesday, June 1, 2016My Tevas had developed minor leaks that kept the bottom of my socks wet all day. Sigh. I ordered the Merrells though I've never worn that brand, attracted by the waterproof feature. Opened the box, put them on, and have hardly had them off since. They are indeed waterproof (or as much as shoes can be) though heavier than I expected. The soles are stiffer as well—more like a boot than a sneaker. Yet they are very comfortable. If your foot is very wide, they probably would not work for you (my foot is medium—a friend with a wide foot tried them on and said that they pinched slightly at the toes. On the other hand, they were only a couple of days old at that point). Bottom line: I would order Merrells again, as I do Tevas and Keens without concern for fit, and these will get a hearty workout. They are extremely well made and will last.
