  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Runs small

I ordered a pair of these small, the size I normally wear (5'2",115lb) I liked the short (length of leg, fabric, chamois pad, etc) except for how tight the waist and leg openings were. I felt they gave the sausage effect on my legs and cut into my waist. So I kept those because I didn't realize how bad it was until I took them out and test drove them on a 20 mile ride.
So I ordered them in medium thinking these two issues would not be as bad. I tried them on and found them to have the same problem so unfortunately I am sending the mediums back.

  • 2.0 out of 5 stars. Diaper-like short-shorts

First, I bought these because of the 10 inch inseam. It isn't 10 inches it is 7.5 inches, so I am returning them. Second I did not expect such a super thick, stiff padding. It felt like a cross between a super maxi-pad and a diaper. If I were 20 years younger with beautiful legs and was going on some epic long rides, perhaps these would be the right shorts for me, but sadly I meet none of those criteria. Back they go! :(

For these to be the lower end of the Castelli brand, they are really nice shorts. The chamois is perfect. I have been cycling for about 2 years and these are the first shorts I've put on that didn't bother me in some way. They do come up rather high in the back, but that doesn't bother me as you don't have to worry about showing any skin just in case your jersey comes up. I can wear a small in most cycling clothing, but I am probably on the cusp between small and medium. I got these in a small and they are definitely tight, but not in a bad way (I'm 5'6'" 125 lbs). The only thing that might be an issue is them becoming see through after a lot of washes and wears, but hopefully that won't happen for a while. I'm definitely going to keep my eye out for more Castelli!

In 2015 I biked at least 200 miles per week from March through September. These shorts were my go-to for every endurance event I competed in.
