5.0 out of 5 stars. A Great Night's SleepReviewed by Pine Cone from Western Washington on Monday, June 19, 2017Nice to see an innovative sleeping bag design!
I am a side and stomach sleeper and have never been very comfortable using traditional mummy bags despite using them for over 50 years. This bag is very comfortable, especially in warmer conditions. I have only used it on nights in the 40's and 50's so far, but the temperature rating seems accurate. Note that the EN Comfort Rating is 38 degrees, and the 30 degree rating is a minimum. You must use a sleeping pad with this bag that has a 30 degree rating if you want to use this bag.
The backcountry bed has no zippers. It does have a comforter/quilt piece in the upper portion of the bag that can be untucked if the nighttime temps are in the 40s or above. If temps drop into the low 40s or below you would want to tuck the quilt portion inside the bag making it more like a traditional mummy bag.
Two nice features of this bag is tha it can hold a pillow inside the upper portion of the bag and it has a sleeve that you put your pad into, also in the upper third of the bag. Having your pillow and pad stay with your sleeping bag helps make for a comfortable nights sleep. Your feet are free to move around and the backcountry bed doesn't "twist up" during the night like tradional mummy bags often do.
I plan on using this for summer camping only, and it is clearly a winner! The packed size and weight are very reasonable for either car camping or backpacking. I have other sleeping bags for colder nights, but this is my bag of choice for camping where I expect nightime temps in the 40's and 50's.
The Sierra Trading Post price beats any other price I have seen. -
4.0 out of 5 stars. I like itVerified Buyer Reviewed by Anonymous from San Francisco on Thursday, December 1, 2016I've only taken it on one short backpacking trip, but this back is great. The design is unique and you really need to sit in one to appreciate how interesting and different it is then a mummy, but also so similar. It packs down well and is very cozy. My only complaint is that the down in the blanket portion is a bit thin, and settled to the sides of the blanket. The baffles go horizontal instead of vertically where maybe a checkered pattern would of locked them in better.
