They have just the right amount of compression to smooth the bumps without choking you. I live in Florida and wear them almost daily. They're light weight, but not skimpy or too thin. I always wear them with a longer shirt or tunic, but you still don't want see-through material on your butt when you reach or bend over. The waist is high enough to eliminate muffin top, and does stay put when you sit or bend. They're a nice cotton/elastane blend material that's NOT shiny - shiny is ok for the gym, but I personally don't always want to look like I just came from the gym.
