I can still use it, but it really is more like for a kid. Fortunately, I have a thin frame and even though I'm an adult I can use it on a short walk for a bottled water and protein bar. I'd never be able to use it for shoes, towels, etc. And never for books. However, a kid around 5-9 would probably be able to use it fine.

While these are small for an adult, they will work for the kids. They don't have an external water bottle holder. However, it will work for our needs, where the kids can carry their own jackets, snacks, etc. on hikes.
