It has two compartments one for the yoga mat (tiny pocket for keys, money, and phone) and the other large compartment for clothes, towel, and water bottle. I have a manduka pro mat and it fits in the bag with plenty of room.

The only improvement I would make is to have a small zipper on the interior pocket that is used to hold your telephone and car keys. They come out and flop around in the bag the way it is designed.
