5.0 out of 5 stars. So far so good

I bought this bag for an upcoming month long trip to Europe. It's always a challenge buying a pack without being able to try it but so far I think this was a success. Let me start with the sizing...

I went with the med since I was right on the edge of sizes and while I think the small might have fit a bit better the med cinched down enough to make it quite comfortable. My. Gregory womans pack is a small and I'd definitely say that this pack runs a bit smaller. On to the other perks...

I chose this pack because it was wide rather than tall which worked out great since it meets all of the carry on size requirements. With a combination of space saver bags and awsome packing skills I can fit everything I need. It also has bottom and front acces which is really useful since you don't have to pull everything out every time you're looking for something. The top acces rolls down like a dry bag which I really like since it keeps things nice and tidy. Overall I even though I can't say how it will it will be in action, I am very pleases with the features.

Haven't been able to use it on the trail yet but I've done some smaller hikes and just walked aroudn wtih my stuff packed in it. Very comfortable and a bunch of pockets and easy access to the main compartment. Just be aware it seemed to run a bit small! I'm 5'2" and had to get the medium (I think my torso is measured at 17). The small was WAY too small and the shoulder straps pinched my neck.

I really love this bag, I was worried that the 50 liter would be too large for what I was looking for for overnighters, but it turns out to be just perfect, in fact I even use it on day trips, since the packing system is so convenient. And since it is designed with width instead of height in mind, it appears quite small for a 50 liter and you will probably end up using it more than you think. I do wish it had more pockets, but it is worth it for the simplicity of the bag, and the roll top.

Haven't had it through the ringer yet, so cannot speak to durability (last pack lasted 8 years despite everyday use-it was like 'my buddy' for those of you old enough to remember that). However, can say that it is easy to take out internal frame, making it pack down to a small enough size for carry on. And like a magician, I can pack it with my down 10 degree comforter, down pillow, and a change of clothes and a towel and have snacks in the belt zip pockets. Would like more internal pockets and a hose insert for the hydration pack, but overall seems like it will be a good pack. I like to many outdoorsy things, and I think this will be able to encompass most everything...
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Very Small Torso

All of these great reviews must be coming from people who bought this pack in size medium or large. The small version has such a short torso, I don't see this fitting any average sized person.

I am a fairly small person at 5'3" and with weight added, the base of this pack hits me in the middle of my back, with the waist belt well above my belly button.

There is no denying that Mountain Hardwear makes some of the best packs out there, and this would be a great pack if it fit. Unfortunately, I am returning mine.

I bought the Mountain Hardwear Koa 35 to replace this one, and it is a much better fit (although the capacity is slightly smaller).
