Planning a trip to NY for a weekend and wanted to be better equipped than the other times when I was miserable.
Plus due to spirit restrictions I decided to embrace the challenge of packing minimally
and settle for one pair of utilitarian (but attractive) boots for walking all around town.
These are BEAUTIFUL btw.
I purchased "Oak" in a size 8.5
So I had purchased three pairs of Merrell boots.
This is 8.5 M
another "Oak" colored pair in 8M
and another style (still zip up/lined/waterproof/laced) in an 8M
And ultimately I am only keeping one, if even.
I have to get thicker socks to ensure I can keep the black pair.
Even though it says M it was SOOOOOO tight in the toe box
There are NO laces on this style
and I purchased in a half size larger (bc it was available)
so I had way more hope for this pair.
My calf was pretty snug in there, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to zip it in. D:
I am 5'5"ish
So 165cm ish?
calf circumfrence 35.5cm roughly 14"
generally I am an 8/8.5
I have NEVER bought outdoor boots like this so I was completely unsure of sizing bc
on blogs you read people say, "size up"
and then other size guides write something else,
and then some boots you look up are not on the official brand page when you google.
These didn't work for me.
Some reviews don't have measurements so I can't make a good value judgement.
I am in the process of returning these.
But they are gorgeous and if you don't mind leather smell they SMELL GREAT.
All about sustainability and no cruelty
IDK how the leather was sourced, but I can't deny liking leather smell. -

Very comfortable with nice grip sole. I wear size 9 or 9.5 in my shoes and all my other Merrell shoes/boots are 9.5 and these were true to that size. I have average calves but I didn't find them to be too tight. No problem getting a pair of skinny jeans inside. Looking forward to taking on my vacation and using in a variety of situations since they are waterproof.

I normally wear a size 6 but based upon other reviews I’ve read, I ordered a half size up. I’m glad I did because I normally wear shoes with a large toebox, and the toebox on this boot is average leaning on the narrow side. No problem for me zipping up over skinny jeans or leggings. Pretty happy with purchase, but do recommend ordering at least have a size up.

The 15" calf spec is for a size 8 boot. Initially, I ordered a size 7 because that is what I wear. I would have to wear a VERY thin sock for a size 7 to work. It certainly was NOT comfortable. I went up a full size to a size 8. My foot moved around in the boot quite a bit and the calf did NOT seem much wider than the size 7. Had to return this boot.

I also know that the leather boots ease a bit after lots of wear, and I wear my merrell boots all the time. Love the height and style of these! I bought in black and brown. Love the prices on STP!

I had the olive color in my shopping cart since they were put on the site, finally ordered when there was one of my size left. Agree with everyone else about the snug fit in the calf. I to have no problem getting jeans tucked into a 15" calf circum, but jeans will not fit in these. I think the problem is that the calf on the boot is very thick where as a full leather boot only has a thin bit of leather on the calf. If you have very skinny calves order they look great and are comfortable.

Couldn't even fit thin leggings under them. I wear 8 in heels and 8.5 in boots to account for fuzzy socks, gotta stay warm here in Buffalo, NY. I would recommend going up a half size, but I opted out of exchanging for a 9 because I'm worried the calf will still be too tight. Besides fit, they were really nice, love the style and the grippy bottom and perfect heel height and waterproof to boot!
