I like the weight (light), half zip and tapered cut. It can be worn hiking on a cool/cold day or worn casually any time. And it's wool! FYI: I wear small in Smartwool but medium in Icebreaker.

This top fits me so well and is muchmore comfortable than my synthetic. And it even keeps your underarms from after a long day generating a funk unlike my old wear. Can't say enough about merino wool material. I have this shirt without the zip turtleneck, but I like this one more when it's windy or snowy to keep my neck warmer...I wore this much more this Winter due to the zip neck and thumbholes.

He has a little tummy. So size up or go for a regular fit Icebreaker. I have returned it and purchased another Icebreaker style.
