5.0 out of 5 stars. A lovely stylish cardigan - get these while you can

A very warm well styled cardigan.- It is sized larger, I normally buy a large for jackets, I listened to other posts and ordered a medium- It fits easily like a cardigan that will take a medium weight fleece underneath. - Choose regular size to wear as a coat - Not for the hills, but definitely for social or house wear. - minor point to be aware of difficult to put on over a chamois cotton or corduroy shirt as the inner fleece is also rough - get these while you can

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Looks Good, Feels Better! Careful on Sizing Though!
Reviewed by Jon J from Fort Collins, CO on Thursday, July 23, 2015
Taking the advice of previous reviewers, I sized down from my normal Large to a Medium. Unfortunately at 6'3"and 190 lbs, the Medium felt especially short in the torso. In addition, the sleeves were too short for my rather long arms and the fit was a bit too tight in the chest.

Fortunately, STP's awesome return/exchange policy had a Large to me within a few days. Large fits me great in every way. Since it's 95 degrees outside, I haven't worn this around much but have no doubt that it will perform every bit as good as my other Marmot gear. Awesome interior fleece lining, this thing is comfy!

P.S. - I will wear with the collar down so I don't look too fancy!

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Great jacket that unfortunately didn't fit
Reviewed by gulfbreeze from FL on Sunday, November 3, 2013
This is one of those purchases I wish had worked out for me. The fabric of the Backroad fleece is absolutely great, nice thick sweater-type fleece outside, with a more conventional fleece feel on the inside. Pretty thick weight, too, that I think would keep out significant chills. Unfortunately, while most all Marmott jackets in medium fit very well, just a bit larger than an athletic cut, the Backroad was a very full cut on me. In addition, I chose the dark blue color, which I really liked, but when paired with the dark grey cuffs and collar and black shoulders and front pocket, the colors just seem to be mismatched. In retrospect, I think the light grey fabric would have less variation, at least according to the pics. Finally, the shoulder fabric was just a bit too squared off at the outer edges, and didn't allow the shoulder to drape more naturally on me...it had almost a padded shoulder look to it. But all of those negatives are really personal issues, not inherent in the jacket, so I don't think I can score down the jacket for them. A better fit and the lighter grey color might have worked great.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Overall nice - more of a sweater than a jacket
Reviewed by Anonymous from Minnesota on Monday, October 28, 2013
I would call this more of a sweater than a jacket. I find it comfortable and the fit is overall good, but the sleeves are a bit long. My use for it will be late spring/early fall and for when I want a cleaner look (business casual and when out for a casual evening). One would need some sort of shell on, if you are outside in a cool/cold breeze...
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Nice jacket, but...

When this jacket arrived, I really like the color and high quality. But when I put it on, the body fit perfectly, but the sleeves were a good 2 inches too long. Really wanted to keep it, but couldn't get over the sleeves covering half my hands so I ended up returning it.

About Marmot

Conceived in a university dorm room by a pair of climbing buddies, Marmot Mountain Works first opened its doors in the spring of 1974 in Grand Junction, Colorado. At the time, the base of operations was a 100-year-old stone building. That same year, the first Marmot down jacket was produced specifically for an action flick called “The Eiger Sanction,” starring legendary actor Clint Eastwood. In the four decades since, Marmot has continued to engineer reliable gear that exceeds the expectations of outdoor athletes. Today, Marmot tents, backpacks, outerwear, clothing and Marmot sleeping bags are still pushing the limits in the planet’s most challenging conditions, from the summits of the world’s highest mountains to the deepest river basins.
