5.0 out of 5 stars. Comfortable, tough and can't find what's wrong with them.

Comfortable and seem to be built to last. They even have a heel reinforcement on the back of the leg. I used them logging for a day and were comfortable and fit well. I got the short and am 5'2" and they were perfect length. I can't find what makes them Factory 2nds.

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Warning: Dark Brown colour does NOT run true to size. Way too small!

I am so disappointed in these. I was so excited when they arrived. After all, I already own two other pairs of the overalls and those fit as if they were designed especially for me. However, when I went to try this pair on, I could NOT even pull them all the way up because they were so small. I would say that were at least two sizes off. Still, I am going to give them three stars because they are the usual Carhartt quality. And, I was able to give them to a friend. They fit my friend perfectly and she is two sizes smaller than me! So, all's well that ends well! Still I must say that I must have ordered at least twenty-five Carhartt items from Sierra and these were the ONLY pair that didn't fit. Ergo, I still am highly pleased with all of the items that I have ordered from Sierra!
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Tough fabric, excellent construction, comfy + lots of pocketses! Fun to wear, too...

I recently purchased these overalls as well as the similar Sandstone, both unlined. I wasn't sure what the differences were between them, as they are both made of 12 ounce cotton canvas, but being familiar with the brand, I figured I couldn't go wrong either way. Apparently, the Sandstone version are being phased out of the Carhartt lineup. When I laid out both pairs to compare, I found that this pair has a slightly narrower (about 2" narrower at the top) & slightly higher bib (reaches about 2" higher) and has a side zipper pocket in addition to the two open (but quite deep) vertical pockets. The fasteners are located at the very top of the bib. The actual suspender part is the same in both pairs. I ordered both pair in the 'short' inseam (I am 5'4" tall, and this worked out fine of me), and these also have a slightly longer inseam (about 1") and are not as wide through the lower leg (about 3/4") which does give them a slightly closer fit compared to the Sandstone. This pair has the kick-panel in the back that the Sandstones do not have. While the material is still very heavy-duty, these have been washed so they look slightly worn in and although they are certainly rugged, they don't feel quite as stiff and rigid as the Sandstone. I'm sure they will still stand up to hard use and will last a long time. I don't have a preference either way, but I can say that from a pair of insulated Sandstone overalls I bought years ago, it does take quite a long time to break them in to anything remotely resembling soft...this is definitely not a complaint--I don't think I will ever be able to wear them out! I purchased these in black and I think they are great (in terms of fit, comfort and I just like the look of overalls) and I am sure I will get many years of wear out of them.
I have worn them over a pair of jeans, as well as just with long johns, and I find the fit to be pretty much true to size for those that prefer a loose enough fit to permit this type of layering, otherwise size down (and I think slim women probably need to order at least one size down even if they are planning to layer). Other reviewers have mentioned that the way the suspenders are constructed doesn't allow for a great deal of adjustment, which seems to be the case. I have mine close to the shortest position, and they are comfortable and allow for easy movement + if needed, I would be able to let them out about four more inches, but I'm not sure how well this would work for very petite or very tall women. I wasn't too sure about the fasteners, and it took me a few tries to get the hang of them, but now I find them to be easy to use and they do stay secure. The product description mentions hip to ankle zippers and storm flaps--I think that is just for the insulated version. I am not sure why these are classified as seconds--no defects that I can see. I'm very pleased with my purchase--great price & these overalls are definitely worth every penny and I would recommend them to anyone that needs heavy duty clothing on the job, out in nature, for chores around the house or just because!

Love these bibs! Heavy duty fabric, especially durable in the double-fronted knees. Super comfortable, just the right number and placement of pockets, and the stretchy straps are perfect for moving around, bending over, reaching, etc. Would recommend to anyone in the market for work-weight overalls!
