3.0 out of 5 stars. Not a backcountry packReviewed by Dry backpacker from Colorado on Monday, April 29, 2019I really wanted to keep this pack as it is lightweight, has lots of nifty features and is more comfortable than my current backcountry pack. But there were a couple of problems. First, my shovel handle did not fit in the special compartment intended for the probe/shovel (I have a BCA shovel). I unzipped part of the panel that separates the top from the bottom compartment, and the handle fit there, but then it blocks access to the bottom compartment. I could unzip that entire panel and put the shovel handle on the other side, but that defeats the purpose of having the separate compartment. Also, my skis (101 underfoot) did not fit easily in the loops. The pack is obviously intended for skimo racing and I wanted to use it for a backcountry pack. I did like the 2 chest straps which increased the comfort for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars. Classic UD design and quality.Verified Buyer Reviewed by Turtle from Idaho on Saturday, March 30, 2019I'm a big fan of UD hydration vests and their products in general. This pack has those same qualities for sure. It is definitely a sport specific design though. I use it for fast and light backcountry skiing and it works fine. It may be too specialized for those looking for a general backcountry skiing or splitboarding pack, but it will get the job done.
