4.0 out of 5 stars. Good boot, not true to sizeVerified Buyer Reviewed by Joshea from IL on Thursday, January 31, 2019I wanted a waterproof hiking boot with street style. This was great. I bought a size 14, but it fit like a 13.5. Disappointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars. Sadly, a missed opportunity for Chaco, and misleadingVerified Buyer Reviewed by Anonymous from Idaho on Thursday, January 24, 2019Chaco has made some great shoes that I still wear (Jaeger) after using them to the point of being unrecognizable. Unfortunately, the Frontier boot, which could have legitimately been a great multi-function shoe for blue-collar workers, recreational, people on their feet all day and serious outdoors folks, sadly misses the mark.
A quick way to lose customers is to advertise one thing not do it. Chaco's website (Sierra as well) advertises waxed-cotton laces for the Frontier. They are not waxed. Those mistakes are completely avoidable. Leather treated well does not need "waterproofing". Feet will get wet from within (sweat) and from without. We all know that to be true, despite companies claims of "breath-ability". The waterproofing in the Frontiers is at best unnecessary, and at worst a liability that makes the foot sweat unnecessarily and adds weight (also adds profit for the shoe company). Mid-rise boots with gusseted tongues are great for keeping out debris, so long as they allow the ankle to flex. The gusseting is great.
Shoes should NOT "support" feet, only protect from cuts, scrapes, etc. A good shoe actually needs to go unnoticed. I notice this shoe far too much. The structure of the foot and the body to which it is connected is self-supporting when allowed to be. The Frontier, sadly, steps over the line into working against the foot, despite Chaco's best intentions, I reckon.
The toe box is too narrow, restricting the toes from being able to spread and rendering the foot incapable of functioning fully. This is a significant mistake in any shoe (Most shoes companies make this mistake. Chaco got it right on the Jaeger), especially an outdoor shoe. Sadly, the restrictive toe box renders the shoe a bad idea for sustained outdoor walking, hiking and back-packing. The heel of the shoe is too big; it is friction and blister prone when combined with the stiffer sole.
The Frontier's restriction of the foot must also bring into question the integrity and competency of the American Podiatric Medical Association. The 'seal of approval' on the shoe box is worthless and misleading to customers, based on the shoe being diametrically opposed to the needs and structure of the whole foot.
The Jaeger has a soft sole, large toe box and properly cradling heel. The Jaeger would not be advertised as a serious outdoor shoe, however, a functional foot loves those shoes on urban sidewalks and in the granite boulder fields of the White Clouds.
The shoe seems well made but I can only give it two stars for reasons stated above.

1.0 out of 5 stars. uncomfortableVerified Buyer Reviewed by Lafon from Oklahoma on Saturday, December 29, 2018shoe is hard to put on as there is not enough slack to slide your foot in. you almost have to completely unlace the shoe to get it on, then there are rivets holding the eyelets on that dig into your ankle. overall very sorry design. chaco is going downhill

5.0 out of 5 stars. Comfortable, stylish and rugged!Verified Buyer Reviewed by sung wen lung from Taiwan on Tuesday, December 25, 2018These are the most comfortable shoes that I own and they are quite durable and scuff-resistant as well! I wore them on our trip to Sydney, Australia and back on the plane-did not once have to take them off and wore them throughout our trip walking on average 3-5 miles each day over both streets and trails-I left them on until bedtime! Virtually no wear whatsoever! Best shoes I've ever owned!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars. Waterproof but not winter bootVerified Buyer Reviewed by Blockwood from Burlington, VT on Wednesday, December 5, 2018Very nice boot, fit well. Hard sole, not squishy. No insulation. Nice construction. They looked great but I wanted a squishy running shoe type sole, and some insulation so I sent them back. They remind me of vintage Merrills.

4.0 out of 5 stars. nice lookingVerified Buyer Reviewed by Cronin Cabinets fan from Massachusetts on Wednesday, December 5, 2018These are the kind of boots Harold Burnham would wear while working on his latest boat building project, the “Beal.” My husband as he custom designs, builds and installs cabinets with his business, Cronin Cabinets, needs the same comfort and flexibility in his footwear. He is on his feet all day moving around as the shop custom builds cabinets to fit customers rooms and dreams. These boots give him the support, comfort and style to help him get the job done.

4.0 out of 5 stars. Chaco Frontier BootsReviewed by Texashorsewoman from Texas on Friday, November 16, 2018Very nice boots. I actually ordered them for myself, sizing down from men to women's sizes. Unfortunately I didn't realize at the time that in this brand I run a 1/2 size larger than in the usual brands I wear. This is not a heavy, clunky boot, so I think suitable for either men or women, unless you have particularly narrow feet. Just remember to size down for women if you know what size you usually wear in Chaco brand.
