The waist is either really generous or "vanity sized," depending on your viewpoint. I ordered based on my waist size measured with a tape, but I ended up sending them back for a size down.
Also keep in mind that these are not lined and you've only got one small hip pocket for your essentials. -

I'm 6'2", 185 and these fit great. I usually wear a 34 and ended up buying the 35's. It was the right move. These shorts dry quickly, have a pocket that snaps shut, and even have a piece of fabric behind the fly to protect against the accidental flash should the Velcro fail while pulling an epic gainer off the brother-in-laws diving board.

I don't have large thighs, so someone who gets huge results from squats, etc, may need to take this into account - the leg opening on a 32 waist is 21 inches, a fairly slim fit. Inseam is 9". Fabric is not stretchy, but I found it very comfortable. Great appearance. Only one pocket on back right side. Versatile - you can throw a solid color button down shirt over them and it would pass for regular walk shorts. These shorts roll up very small, like a packable windbreaker, and so great for travel. At STP's great discount price, even with shipping, I got a great bargain. Highily recommended.
