5.0 out of 5 stars. awesome jacketVerified Buyer Reviewed by Andy from Seattle on Saturday, August 30, 2014I own the original Helium and this one is a huge improvement (as is the helium 2). Having vented pockets is really nice (and they're higher up so you can access it with a pack or harness on). It breathes really well and the venting is great with out zips and mesh lined pockets. It also uses a bit more durable 30 denier nylon as opposed to the original 20 D.
The best improvement is in the hood. The original hood was only adjustable from the back and it would pull the sides back as a result, leaving your face mostly exposed to any non vertical rain. New hood adjusts from each side on the front and a halo adjustment from the back, along with a write brim.
Now, this all comes at the cost of increased weight, but my small came in at 8.57oz (original helium was about 6.5oz). The fit is still the same (standard fit, so not trim/tight fitting like OR's other active wear products), and the small fit true to size (I'm 5'6", 158lbs, 38" chest, 32" waist in my usual clothes) -
5.0 out of 5 stars. Nice productVerified Buyer Reviewed by Matt from North Carolina on Sunday, August 17, 2014Most everything I've owned from outdoor research is top notch. I usually find it to be better quality than the competition for the price. This jacket is no different. It is very light, nice construction, heavier duty than the ghost whisperer line of MH jackets. Pit zips are a must for me. Having a fully featured jacket half the weight of my other shells will be perfect for 3 season backpacking. No other fully featured jacket this light can even come close to the price on STP!
Cut is a bit small in the waist for me. I purchased a large but couldn't fit the waist, everything else was fine. I own other OR shells in L and an OR ski coat in XL. So I am probably between sizes, I returned the jacket and went to XL, fits me fine in XL. -
4.0 out of 5 stars. Great summer rain jacketVerified Buyer Reviewed by Eagle Dad from San Diego, CA on Tuesday, August 12, 2014Very light and packable. Ventilates well with pitzips. Need to order one size bigger than normal if you want to fit a puffy underneath. Brim is modable but I usually use a waterproof baseball cap underneath the hoods of my rain jackets. Tested in Yosemite's back country - Tuolomne Meadows via Rafferty Creek Trail to Booth Lake, Merced Lake, Half Dome, Mist Trail, and Little Yosemite Valley. Held up well to light to moderate rain. Reason for 4 starts is because I was not able to test this jacket in heavy downpours. Overall an awesome product. Only gripe: arms are way too long.
