5.0 out of 5 stars. Nice Surprise - Better than expectedVerified Buyer Reviewed by Anonymous from Greater Seattle area on Monday, November 24, 2014I'm late 50's, climbed, skied, camped, from my highschool days. I remember ordering (mail order) from REI back in the 70s, and how thrilling it was to get my goods 3-4 weeks later. Zoom up a few years and I've worked Scouts for 10+ years and tried all sorts of gear and clothing (live in Seattle area = rain, damp, wet-cold, snow, for 5-6 months of the year) That said, I've tried and used a lot of different gear. My other main coat is a Marmot feather weight Gortex primarily for climbing. This coat was a secondary backup, however...
What I like - very flexible material, not stiff like the my OR Gortex. Perforated lining on the chest, back, and arm pits very good for ventalation. Good length (I'm 6'-4", 185lbs) in sleeves and trunk. Zipper works well (european zipper, on the left). Hood folds up into the collar, or you can zip off. I normally don't use a hood but prefer a hat. I like that it was made in a country other than China. I like that it is not a "name brand" recognized by everyone.
Not sure of yet - no pit zips - but I have had not issues with that yet. I only use pit zips if really warm or humid. My other OR Gortex rain has full up the side zippers - sort of hard to get used to, not very practical.
What I don't like - nothing to really speak of yet. I like small zipper pockets on the sleeve. The pockets are OK, but with a wet hand the pockets are a little sticky and come out with your hand.
