They worked fairly well for this as I didn't have a sand issue - yet I was disappointed that they wouldn't stay up on my calves. And I have fairly thick calves from biking (I have yet to find a pair of high boots I can fit into since my calves are so thick). Or possibly they're suppose to go above my calves in order for them not to slide? Yet the size I bought should have been bigger than I usually order as it was men and womens sizing.

The color is a deep cranberry and true to the picture. I wear a size 10 women's boot and ordered the medium, which is a bit snug on my calves. Wish they had these in a large, but the stretchy material makes it possible to wear the medium despite being just a tad snug.

These hit the mark, and I got quite a deal on them! Took them out for a winter hike and snowshoe, and they did a great job of keeping the snow out without getting in the way. Fit perfectly (sized a Medium, wear size 8.5/9 women's with long legs (5'11")) and stayed up the entire hike, which I was a bit concerned with as I have smaller calves. I would highly recommend these.
Side note - as another reviewer mentioned, these are fuschia/somewhat bright. I love the color, though! -
