5.0 out of 5 stars. Leki Wanderfreund speed Lock Walking Cane!
Reviewed by COOPER from Michigan on Friday, January 16, 2015
This is the second Cane that I purchased from Sierra in the past 2 weeks my posted a review on my first LEKI cane which is the one without the locking system.
Before I purchased this cane from SIERRA TRADING POST I had purchased the LEKI Wanderfreund Walking Cane they also sell. If you read my review of my first cane I purchased - name COOPER - you will see that I gave that one a 4 Stars out of 5. Like I mentioned in my other review a gentleman let me try his Leki Shock resistant cane and I loved every thing about it but the price but I didn't need the anti-shock feature that it has. I have been using my first LEKI cane but I noticed when I went back on Sierra's web site - I like to window shop LOL again - - they now had this cane pictured above that they did not have for sale when I purchased my first one.. If you notice this one - the Speed Locking Walking Cane in the exploded view you will see the handle is 2 colors - this cane has a larger handle that fits my hand perfectly. Where as the Cane without the locking feature has a smaller handle which is the first cane I purchased. The price that Sierra sells the LEKI Hiking Canes for I was able to purchase 2 canes for less than the price of this one pictured above because any other place wanted close to retail for it at roughly $70. I now have 2 really nice canes that are of very high quality and that do their job yet have a sporting look to them some thing that is important to myself. I just don't like canes that look like a medical type even though I have been disable for 35 years. This cane with the speed lock system is even more sturdy than ones without it. This cane is a notch above the other cane Sierra now offers and between the two I do like this one better for roughly $5 more. I now 2 canes both that suit my needs this one a bit more. You can not go wrong with either one as I found out now having one of each. Being disabled as many of us are its nice to find a business that is willing to discount a tool people that are disabled are more able to afford at such a reasonable price for such a fantastic cane. Sense my bad fall on Christmas Day and having ended with a concussion I am a bit paranoid about not having a cane close by. For the price of what one retails for I have paid less and now have 2. These canes are so lite and sturdy they are very easy to hang on to and use. Thank You
P.S. I am sorry for such a long review but that's just me.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Great city or country cane/hiker!
Reviewed by Anonymous from Southeast PA near Philly on Sunday, April 30, 2017
At a Sierra Trading Post discount price, this is no doubt a wonderful stick for city or country walking. I use mine everywhere, since my back needs a good support anymore to be out and around, whether I am in town or out in the sticks and enjoying a woods walk. As it can be adjusted, that is a very helpful attribute for what terrain you are covering. I keep it a bit high for my walks in the woods and fields, since terrain changes are often more drastic and more aggressive assistance is needed there, but even on level ground it is great for helping your walking when you need some support to assist you in getting less stress on your back and body for normal shopping, etc., too.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Good, but not outstanding...

    Pros:
    Typical Leki craftsmanship and finish

    Cons:
Will not collapse as compactly as Twist-lock model
Lowest section must be almost fully extended to engage Speed Lock mechanism
Synthetic Grip material not as comfortable as cork grip models

    Overall:
    Adequate, sturdy, serviceable
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Variable Use

Nice adjustable stick. Max is 47 inches from end of rubber tip to crook on the Derby style handle. Minimum is 32.5 inches. The lower section can be adjusted 3 inches (due to taper) while the middle section allows 11.5 inches. Take the walking tip off and you can change the stick for sand or snow use by putting on the appropriate Leki baskets. You can use this cane style or walking stick style. I would have preferred to have a stronger strap more like the snow sport units. But this style allows the strap to be taken off if you don't want it. I find the strap to be inconvenient when used as a cane - in both orientations. At max extension I find the stick to flex a bit when I use it was a walking stick. I use this as a cane at 35 inches and don't notice the flexing much. This is a great compromise for me since I can use it as a cane or a hiking stick depending on terrain.

This new one is a replacement for one lost in an airport by my wife.

If you want a high quality light weight cane, this is the one. The adjustments are quick and very accurate. I carried it on vacation and was able to easily navigate both trails and sidewalks. The cane projects a sporting image and could pass as a hiking tool. I will most likely stay with this type of cane and brand

About LEKI

The company behind LEKI ski poles was founded in 1948 by Karl Lenhart. Dissatisfied with the equipment of his day, Lenhart spent considerable time and effort engineering what would soon become some of the best ski poles in the world. In the years since, LEKI poles have evolved from fiberglass composite shafts to aluminum and carbon fiber. In 1974, LEKI trekking poles were the first on the market to feature an adjustable-length shaft and, within four years, the poles were helping climbers summit Mount Everest. Select LEKI poles now feature anti-shock and Speed Lock adjustment technology, and the product range has even expanded to include LEKI gloves specially designed for mountaineering and skiing.
