5.0 out of 5 stars. Great trail shoe!!

I wore these on a two week backpacking trip in Oregon this summer. Although they are technically running shoes, they are also a fantastic hiking and backpacking shoe. They are light and flexible with great traction. The Optifit insole is awesome - so comfortable and odor resistent! For a running shoe, these are amazingly durable - they even have a stout toe bumper that rivals anything I've seen in hiking boots. The durability and the waterproofing makes these shoes a standout for anyone who hikes in running shoes. An added benefit of the waterproofing is that it keeps dust out of the shoe. I put over 200 miles on mine doing 16-18 miles per day with a 35 pound pack and I'd say they're ready for another 200 miles. They do fit big, so most people will want to go down a 1/2 size. I actually wear these a 1/2 size bigger than normal for backpacking. Despite the larger size, they don't feel clumsy and I never got a single blister in 2 weeks of hiking.

  • 1.0 out of 5 stars. not the salomon I know and love
Reviewed by working woman from missouri on Wednesday, January 21, 2015
I don't know what happened with the pair of shoes I received, but I'm glad it wasn't my first Salomon experience or I would never tried another pair. The shoes were so narrow, I couldn't push my foot into the shoe. For that matter, my 7 year old son, who thought it would be funny to put on mom's new shoes, couldn't get his foot in the shoe either. I'm wearing a pair of very similar Salomon's now, and they are awesome. But I recommend bypassing this shoe, or, making sure you are buying it in time to return them before you absolutely need them.
  • 2.0 out of 5 stars. Probably a good hiking shoe; horrible running shoe.

All the reviews here seem to talk about how great these are for hiking - probably the case. I haven't tried hiking in them. However, they are advertised as a running shoe, and they are horrible for that. Very, very stiff. Very, very heavy. And the rear is very high - hits right in the middle of the Achilles, for an all-but-guaranteed blister if one was to run in them.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Sturdy and Comfortable Shoe

Love Salomon and these do not disappoint. I have owned several pairs over the years and continue to appreciate the no-laces and sturdy feeling of this shoe. I use these for hiking and general use and love all the funky colors. I have a hard time finding shoes to fit as I need a wide toe box and narrow heel. These come close to perfect for that type of foot. I got my usual size 8 and these fit true to size with a medium thickness sock.

I'm still getting use to this shoe, but it serves the purpose for which I bought the pair -- winter trail running. It's a heavier shoe and is very stiff. I've had to try different pairs of socks and different levels of tightness with the laces to come up with something that is supportive without digging into parts of my foot. It really is perfect for winter trail running because with a sock that is labeled lightweight (not ultra light) smart wool-ype sock, my feet are both dry and warm. The only thing I would change to make it a perfect trail shoe for me is a wider platform for additional stability. But that would add weight. So, I think I just need to adapt. This looks to be a well-made shoe. We'll see how it holds up over time.

I bought these shoes for walking my dog in the winter cold, and they've been wonderful. My toes usually get cold fast, but the temperatures have been in the teens here and I've been comfortable out walking. I've run in them a little bit, and they were fine, although they are heavier and take some getting used to. When I first wore them, I thought they were too big, but then I realized I just wasn't tightening them enough. Wonderful winter shoes!

About Salomon

The legendary Salomon outdoor equipment company was founded more than 60 years ago in the French Alps by Francois Salomon. After developing the world’s first self-releasing ski binging in 1966, the company continued to grow and innovate new products. By the early 1990s, the brand had taken the wintersports market by storm with Salomon skis made using cap construction, a totally new innovation at the time. Salmon boots quickly became famous for their balance of performance and comfort on the slopes. By the turn of the century, Salomon snowboards were helping athletes push themselves in the park and powder. Today, Salomon continues to be an industry leader, with products that range from skis and snowboards to hiking boots and trail running shoes.
