5.0 out of 5 stars. Perfict Base Layer

I ordered an XXL because it said between a 43 and 45 chest. I normally wear a L 44 and this [...] fit perfect, not a bit scratchy and the warmth was immediately noted. This was purchased for a hiking trip I plan to take with my daughter in May so I won't really know how it works till I finish that trip. I'm thinking this was the perfect shirt for the trip.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Long underwear to dream on

As a die-hard user of silk long johns, I'm impressed (so far--haven't done any "performance" use yet). There can be a very slight itch, but this top is remarkably soft and smooth--and nicely stretchy. There IS a difference between 150 and 200 weight (I got a different pair of bottoms in 200, since they don't seem to make them in 150). My concern is always getting too hot, and having a "wicking" layer absorb so much sweat that it never dries. This is a smidgen thicker than silk, and a lot more form-fitting, so it remains to be seen if it will shed moisture as well. The only problem with silk is that it falls apart after a season or two of heavy use; the Icebreaker seems to be more durable, but maybe not by much. I love the "lucky" green. All these years I thought long underwear only came in white or black or navy, it's thrilling to find some in an interesting color. Despite what other reviewers say, I plan to wear mine as a single layer; it's a lot less revealing than silk. I could do without the thumb holes.

Bought this for my husband for bicycling - base layer. Much nicer than silk - doesn't stretch out and easy care.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Too thin

I have a few Icebreaker 150 weight shirts, but am returning this because it is virtually see-through and not suitable as an only shirt unless you want to show off your nipples and chest hair.

Soft, non-scratchy, close fitting. Perfect base layer for mid-cold ski days. As always, Icebreaker products are the best of all the merino wool brands.
