I suspect they would shrink and the elastic would suffer in heat.

As I and other have said, if you wear US L or XL, that's the SAME SIZE as these are marked. Can't beat them or the STP price. Only hassle is they need to hang dry; no tumble drying.

Knowing the comfort and quality of the brand, I was excited to see them come up on the Trading Post for a discounted price from retail (still expensive, but worth it in my past experience).
Fabric: Great. Soft and quality with a comfortable, soft waistband. As expected.
Fit: Terrible. I don't have a big butt, but I've never had trouble fitting into a size large, or sometimes medium, depending on the brand, as far as briefs go. These seemed a bit snug when I first put them on and within 10 minutes or so, the back of the waistband had fallen a third of the way down my backside inside of my jeans. They weren't advertised as "low rise" but they ended up fitting much lower than some low rise bries I own. They are simply not roomy enough in the seat.
Overall: I'd love to feel this wonderful fabric next to my skin but I'm afraid my average sized body type is too much for the fit of these briefs. I fear that a larger size would leave an undesired slouch in other parts (the front) as that seemed to be properly proportioned. -

The sizing is typical US, don't follow the size when you click on the SML or XL. A medium is 32-34, not the 36-38 shown. I have worn Zimmerli underwear for many years and they hold up well if you hand wash or have a front load washer. They us high quality fabrics that last a long time if not abused. At their price you should never put them in a conventional top loading agitator washer, it eats clothes. I hope Sierra Trading would be more careful on the sizing of products sized in Europe or Asia.
