5.0 out of 5 stars. Amazingly Comfortable

There is something about the cut of this jacket and the material used as the lining that makes it super comfortable to wear. I look forward to putting it on, just because it fits so nice. As far as performance goes - it's Helly Hansen so it's bone dry inside. I did order 1 size larger than normal because of it's athletic cut.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Awesome

There is little to say about the performance of the coat; as one reviewer mentioned, it's a HH. My concern was fit and color. At 5'6, and 42Short I can be between medium and large. After trying on similar products in a store (Pat, Arxtec, Col) I went with Large. Its perfect by itself and accommodates a thin fleece or a bulkier Blaklader vest. The cuffs are a little tight to have winter gloves under but if its cold enough for gloves, its time for a heavier coat. The length is great keeping legs dry in the rain.
The color is bright but not garish and seems to be mellowing slightly. One advantage is that its not me having to look at it, and others definitely see me on the bike.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Come on, it's HH...

Of course it's a well-made rain jacket. Ducks look at me with envy, it sheds precipitation so well. It fits great -- I'm 5' 8", 135 pounds and the medium is perfect with a medium weight fleece underneath. The hood provides great protection and can accommodate a thick hat, but not a helmet.. Okay, those are the positives. Here are a few things I wish it had; more pockets, there are only two hand pockets and one inner pocket; I've always enjoyed the 'Napoleon' pocket for little things like a compass or small camera; I wish it had pit zips; it's a bit noisy, as the fabric crinkles, though that should subside after wearing. I'd warn the buyer that this jacket is BLAZE ORANGE -- it's likely you can be seen from space wearing it. Some find that problematic, I find it an avoidance of being shot by a hunter, or being able to be seen if I'm hurt. All-in-all a really nice 3-season jacket at STP's typical great price.
  • 2.0 out of 5 stars. Awful cut

6/2, 200 lbs normally wear XL or a 2XL, this barely fits over a sweatshirt on me, and I got the 2XL... nice construction, but real awkward "stringy boxy" cut... not recommended...
  • 2.0 out of 5 stars. Not true to size

Ordered a 2 XL, couldn't close jacket. Mislabeled size. Orange color is brighter than pictured. Material and style is nice however. Sent it back.

About Helly Hansen

Although he started the business way back 1877 with a small selection of hand-stitched oilskin jackets, Norwegian sea captain Helly Hansen will forever be remembered as one of the founding fathers of waterproof clothing. Now, more than a 130 years later, the Helly Hansen outerwear and clothing company still sets a high bar for weather-conquering jackets, gale-blocking pants and outdoor-ready apparel. Although waterproof breathable rainwear is what put this brand on the map, Helly Hansen ski jackets have been helping people stay dry on the slopes for decades and Helly Hansen boots are ready to go wherever your adventurous spirit leads you.
