5.0 out of 5 stars. Gentlemen's Upland Field Coat With Camo Pattern
Reviewed by Mountain Hiker from Georgia on Saturday, March 26, 2016
I was somewhat skeptical of ordering this jacket because a company's divergence from a core product line into branded or licensed merchandise usually results in quality issues. This is not the case with the Beretta Jacket as the quality is exceptional. The product technology is not cutting edge (2 layer Gortex) but has been around for decades and works. It should be noted that this jacket is very heavy. The jacket is not a waterproof shell that can be stuffed in a daypack and retrieved at the first sign of bad weather. If you are merely looking for camo rain gear this jacket is not for you. This jacket is a gentlemen's upland field coat with a camouflaged pattern. Because the design was not constrained by weight, the jacket has numerous specialized pockets providing endless possibilities for carry small hunting related items. If you intend to wear this jacket from the truck to the tree stand this would be an outstanding option. The jacket is much too heavy to use on a backpack hunt.

The optifade forest pattern is no longer in use by many manufacturers, so finding matching pants or shirt might be an issue. But if you already own pieces in this pattern from other manufacturers this jacket matches perfectly. There has been various comments regard sizing. I am 6', 205lbs, 35 inch waist, and wear between a 44 and 46 long suit coat. The XL fits very well with ample room for layering. I may have been satisfied with a large, but have no regrets buying the XL.

A final note as to why I believe this jacket ended up on STP. I think that the production cost of the jacket was high due to the labor required for all the zippers and detailed work in the specialized pockets. This is an extremely complex jacket to produce and Beretta simply overpriced this jacket at the retail level and missed the target audience. The price of this jacket on STP is more than fair and is an excellent value.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Excellent

Extremely happy with fit. I ordered a xl USA and normally that's to small and short for myself at 6'2" 220lbs. This fits and has the room for layering. Love the big shell pockets and snaps and the water tight zippers in the pits. I'm going to enjoy using this jacket and so far I've been rabbit hunting, walked several hours in 35mph west Texas winds, and now I'm in Illinois and in a week I've been out in 12deg to 55deg f with snow to rain and then back. One of the best things I've seen in a long time.
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Great features, great quality

This jacket lives up to Berretta's standards. Excellent features, extremely well-made, plenty of pockets, and the best hood I've ever seen - there's an interior elasticized band which acts to keep the outer hood material off the top of your head and your face. Very clever. HIgh collar has already proven its worth in windy sleet day here in western Pennsylvania. If I can find matching pants, I would buy them without hesitation. And the price on this item was great - I've certainly paid more for raingear of far less quality.
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Soft outer material

I bought this for sitting in a ground blind and ice fishing. I realize that the insulation in this coat is insignificant, but I went to a x large for layering purposes. I can generally wear large or x large but this coat is genoursly cut. Not sure how it would work in a down pour, but it should work in a light rain or snowy conditions. The large hood will go over winter hats with no issues and has plenty of pockets. I could not envision this being used for archery deer hunting, to bulky. I am 69" and weigh 160lb but have broader shoulders, so a large would fit perfect but might not leave enough room to wear a heavier jacket in lower temps.
  • 2.0 out of 5 stars. Nice design but leaked through the shoulders.

This is a very nice jacket but it is a shell and not a well insulated jacked. It is lightly insulated to be used as a outer shell for layering. My issue was that in the first snow that I was able to use the jacket, the jacket got wet in the shoulder areas. That would be a fail for what the purpose of this jacket was intended for. After two calls to customer service, the jacket was returned and was given back credit. A little concerned it took several phone calls to get a proper return for this item but perhaps the return dept was over worked and failed to read the return notes???

About Beretta

Beretta just might have the distinction of being our most historic brand, having cut its first business deal way back in 1526! That was when Bartolomeo Beretta received his first ducat for producing an arquebus… and thus it was that a firearm dynasty was born. Word of this high-quality gun manufacturer eventually spread beyond the borders of Italy and now - 15 generations later - Beretta has established a world-famous sporting tradition synonymous with uncompromising quality, design and materials. Beretta clothing is made for the same discriminating sportsman who appreciates the company's world-class firearms. From gun jackets to upland pants to shooting gloves, Beretta upholds its commitment to excellence in every piece of apparel they manufacture.
