The ikat material is lovely. I doubt he'll ever wear them on the plain side out. We got the 33" waist size, his normal size and they fit just fine.

There is actually two separate layers of fabric, the solid side fairly thin, which is good or the short would have been too heavy. I'd characterize overall as medium weight.
