5.0 out of 5 stars. Excellent shoe

Shimano is best known for its excellent components, but also has a long track record of making excellent bike shoes. Unlike other recent arrivals to the cycling shoe market by clothing and helmet makers, Shimano has issues like sizing, lasts and choice of materials down to a science. I've always liked their old school touring shoes and these are a nice update with clip less 2 bolt cleat mounting and high quality synthetic leather, which is superior to leather as it is more stretch resistant and doesn't soak up moisture. That said, it has a nice non- plastic feel much like materials found in high end shoes from premier cycling shoe makers like Sidi. The outsole is a harder durometer rubber and should hold up for many years. The sock liner is really high quality and thick. There is enough shoe volume to accommodate aftermarket insoles like smart soles easily. The fit is classic Shimano with a roomy toe box and snug and generously padded heel. The sole is the perfect combination of stiffness for power transfer on the bike and comfort while walking. Finally the mounting plate for the clip less pedal cleat makes a smooth contour internally unlike other brands which is really important for comfort The only thing I don't like about the Shimano design is the instep strap so I removed it.

At this price these are an unbeatable value!

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Great shoes

These shoes fit according to the size which was a surprise since it is so hard to buy shoes without trying them on and all too often the stated size turns out to be quite different. This is not the case with these. The fit is spot on, the shoes are quite comfortable and are great to ride in.

I use the shoes in a spin class and they've been great. As cycling shoes go, they're comfortable to walk in from car to class.

Not the world's most comfortable for long distances walking (super stiff soles), but they hold up great for long rides.

Purchased these to go with a pair of Shimano PD-T420 Click'R pedals as I transition from vintage platform/toe clips to the SPD system on my commuter bike. So far, the system is working fine though I only have about 20 miles with it. The shoes fit well and aren't too stiff for walking. Installed the SM-SH56 multi-directional cleats that came with the pedals and find it very easy to clip in and release from the pedals. Will learn more as I begin training for a long ride this spring.

About Shimano

After half a century in the business, Shimano has become a household name in cycling components, apparel and footwear. Of course, this now legendary brand didn’t start off on top. Shimano started small by creating a three-speed hub and showing it to bicycle manufacturers at the New York Toy Show in 1961. Eventually, over the next few decades, thanks to a constant drive for innovation, Shimano components became some of the most trusted in the industry. Today, Shimano pedals and Shimano cycling shoes are chosen by the world’s most elite athletes. Ride Shimano, and you’ll be riding with one of the best.
