Nice and deep with a nice flap-top closure, but not very thick so you're not going to get much in there. The suspended laptop pocket is a great feature for keeping the laptop from impacting the ground when you set the bag down. The real letdown for me was the single, simple front pocket. It's just a straight zipper pocket with no organization. I gave this to one of my kids because I needed more space, organization and access.

So Timbuk2's design for utilitarian (yet good looking) bag with a flap closure is exactly what I was looking for. I've been carrying it around for a couple weeks and like how it looks and how it feels. Use it for work and there is enough room for my laptop, lunch, jacket, and a couple other items--more if you pack it well.
Like other reviewers, my only sticking point is the number of pockets. It could use just one more good size inner pocket and second water bottle holder. Over all, very happy.
