5.0 out of 5 stars. Lovely jacket; best for very cold weather, lower-energy activities

Salomon is my go-to manufacture for Nordic ski outfits because, unlike most other manufacturers, they produce clothing expressly made for the activity. I was looking for a warmer, insulated flexible softshell jacket for brutally colder days (e.g., teens and single digits) that I could wear with one or two layers. This jacket appears on Salomon’s website as part of the Nordic line emphasizing warmth and comfort. I recently wore this jacket skiing on a mostly cloudy, very cold day (18 with wind chill of about 5). Once I got started this jacket kept me quite warm (over two layers: Poly shirt + wool mid-layer), but I found that it was not as breathable as I probably need since my back started to sweat (though I am a relative novice, I ski moderately vigorously). Still, I really love this jacket as it striking, provides a flattering fit and moves freely while skiing. (Reasonably water resistant, too, as I stood out in a recent drizzle for about 30 minutes and the jacket repelled the water). So, I am supplementing it with the Salomon Momentum (which purportedly is more breathable) and will wear this jacket after the ski or when I am planning to do less vigorous, cold weather activities. The M fits me perfectly and allows layering (34B, 29” waist).

About Salomon

The legendary Salomon outdoor equipment company was founded more than 60 years ago in the French Alps by Francois Salomon. After developing the world’s first self-releasing ski binging in 1966, the company continued to grow and innovate new products. By the early 1990s, the brand had taken the wintersports market by storm with Salomon skis made using cap construction, a totally new innovation at the time. Salmon boots quickly became famous for their balance of performance and comfort on the slopes. By the turn of the century, Salomon snowboards were helping athletes push themselves in the park and powder. Today, Salomon continues to be an industry leader, with products that range from skis and snowboards to hiking boots and trail running shoes.
