5.0 out of 5 stars. Possibly the coolest coat ever -Reviewed by Hipster Doofus from CT on Friday, August 14, 2015As soon as I saw this coat I knew it looked familiar. This is the modern incarnation of the coat Jimmy the Mod is wearing on the cover of the Who’s Quadrophenia album. It’s what to wear when clashing with leather-clad rockers. If you get the reference you will get the coat, and if you get the coat you will love the coat.
This is a faithful replication of the old M-1948/M-1951 military fishtail parka, with major upgrades and all the added benefits of the Barbour spin on it.
STP left out some important details in the product overview. The description sounded like this would be a good raincoat, but this is a serious foul-weather/cold-weather coat.
The details are great – ¾ length, quilted lining throughout - including the sleeves, cotton flannel-lining at the wind-flap and chin zip, and nice deep hand-warmer pockets with flaps/snap covers. The hood is fleece trimmed with flannel inside. The hood is listed as removable but it’s not, and it shouldn’t be on this coat.
It’s also the typical Barbour coat – very well-made with attention to quality - heavy cotton canvas outside, deep stitching, heavy duty brass zipper, heavy duty snaps, blah, blah, blah.
If you’re looking for a great value this is it. STP shows the retail price of $499, but I saw this coat on some German store’s website at 702 euros. Either way it’s a bargain for a Barbour coat and Who connection really does it for me.
