It has a small magnesium fire starter rod built in the handle, to start a fire during extreme emergencies. It also has a small tweezers and tooth pick, copied from Swiss army knives. The knife blade has a very sharp edge, however it did get slightly dull after cutting up some cardboard boxes. But a couple of swipes with a ceramic rod sharpened the blade right up. I also have it's "big brother" that is just a larger version, with a 3" smooth blade and larger magnesium fire starting rod.
