5.0 out of 5 stars. First (but Certainly NOT Last) Sherpa Item (Kriti Tech Soft Shell)

I pulled the trigger on this last month and have been nothing but impressed. I was looking for a light soft shell jacket for 3-season use here in Utah and that had good technical features, a nice color, and did not break the bank. One of my friends wears a lot of Sherpa Adventure Gear stuff and I did some research to find that they design and make most of their stuff in Nepal and are committed to giving locals there good jobs. They are relatively new and while their initial gear had some small issues, the second wave got good solid reviews. I went to a local shop and tried on some of their items. They are all pretty solid quality and the price point is attractive.

Right out of the box I knew that this was a good, solid jacket. The price was less than half of the competitors and the quality was there. The details are nice. The fabric is sturdy yet not too bulky or too warm. The zippers all open very easily. The sleeves, although a bit long, have a nice articulated design that did not impede my movement in the few hours I used it this weekend. The wrists are snug. I also found that this was the FIRST jacket that I have (and I have many) that has hand pockets that are easy to open, comfortable for your hands, and that I used as handwarmers. The finish details are nice.

The only downside is that their stuff runs about a whole size small, but it works for me.

Love the color of this item (yellow).

On a brisk, 60 F day in the Wasatch, this did it for me. I really did not want to take it off because it felt so good.

Gotta say that this is a nice intro to the brand and an excellent value. Hope that STP continues to carry this brand.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. nice cool weather soft shell

This is a pretty nice soft shell. It's comfortable for hiking down into the 40s, and keeps wind and some rain off. Its fairly bulky for how much warmth it provides, but its nice for day hikes in fall or spring.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. For skinny, tall dudes

I never got to use this outdoors, so can't say anything about the performance. And that's because I'm not a skinny ultra-marathoner. Most size M jackets fit me just fine, this one clung to my arms and torso like a thicker base layer. Once I had it on, the jacket armpits rode way high and kept impinging on my armpits rather uncomfortably. I guess I could go a size up, but then the arms and torso would be too long (I'm 5'7", 160 lb, and the size M was on the longer side). So this is probably a good jacket if it fits you, but I'll stay away from all "slim fit" jackets in the future!
