However, I returned them because of the color. The black is very dull and is almost more a dark gray than a true black. It results in their looking more casual than I wanted in a boot. They do fit snuggly around the calf and have some other nice features.

The second time I wore the black pair, the heel broke off the bottom of the boot while I was walking down a perfectly paved, even sidewalk. I hobbled to my office, took of my boot, and looked at the heel. The heal had cheap-looking plastic tabs holding the base of the heel onto the boot. I'm sending back both pairs of boots, as I believe the second-wearing of the brown pair may also lead to additional lopsided walks from the parking lot to my office.

I'd been shopping for a casual knee high boot and was not afraid to spend a little extra for quality. These fit the bill. I have athletic calves and the goring makes these boots supremely comfortable, and well fitted without being too tight or too baggy. They are stylish but practical with the lower heel. If I have one complaint it would be they are a little roomy around the ankle/heel area, however, I might appreciate this when it gets colder and my socks get thicker. These are very well made, high quality boots. I tried everything from Frye, to Born, and many other top-shelf brands, these are the winner. Love 'em. Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy boots! These boots make me happy.
