Lots of Name rain gear in made from waterproof material, yet is only mildly water resistant when made into something humans can wear. I placed this jacket in a sink, and filled it with a mere 3 inches of water and left it overnight. There are several brands that won't meet this simple test, B&C are 2 of them in spite of their 20,000mm label. I learned the hard way in Alaska last year. This Marmot passed easily and was not water logged on the outside fabric. It goes to AK this year. Many of the guides in Alaska wear 2 independent layers of rain wear in case the outer layer fails [that assumes not a lot of rigorous activity involved, mere fishing and sitting]. I will have a thin Marmot Precip jacket as my inner layer. Past that, I would need a life jacket it the weather gets that bad.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Pretty much as expected:

At $67 I couldn't resist. Needed cotton/ polyester w/b shell for an upcoming mill job. I'd just purchased the Nano AS shell (suitably reduced) as a benchmark. Weight, breathability, drape, etc. This will do fine on the job: brass snaps, larger media-pocket (hood won't fit a hardhat though). in NYC, suddenly, right after Marmot got bought out, Marmot became a fetish with the yuppies (kids were shooting each other for overpriced shells). I've "Marmot Mountain" down sweaters & their WL Gore anorak from the Supplex Nylon days & they both still function. Still notable quality, thoughtful design features and dependability, I hope they don't change?

About Marmot

Conceived in a university dorm room by a pair of climbing buddies, Marmot Mountain Works first opened its doors in the spring of 1974 in Grand Junction, Colorado. At the time, the base of operations was a 100-year-old stone building. That same year, the first Marmot down jacket was produced specifically for an action flick called “The Eiger Sanction,” starring legendary actor Clint Eastwood. In the four decades since, Marmot has continued to engineer reliable gear that exceeds the expectations of outdoor athletes. Today, Marmot tents, backpacks, outerwear, clothing and Marmot sleeping bags are still pushing the limits in the planet’s most challenging conditions, from the summits of the world’s highest mountains to the deepest river basins.
