Most Helpful 5-Star Review

5.0 out of 5 stars. Great raincoat!

I have been trolling the STP site form months looking for just the right raincoat. I have been substantially constrained by the lack of reviews with the specifics I needed, so hopefully my review will help others.

This is a substantial, well-constructed jacket. I was looking specifically for something on the long side, to protect me on my mile-long walks to the gym when rain threatens. This seems to fit the bill, though I haven't yet put it through the downpour test.

I am 5'3", 125lb, and petite sizes generally are proportioned best for me, but are seldom available in the discount arena. I decided on the Large (size 10), in order to have some extra room for layering underneath. It fit comfortably with a heavy fleece, but would likely not be comfortable with anything bulkier. I have a somewhat broad back, and there is not a ton of extra room at the top for bulky layers, but it is fine for my purposes.

The jacket falls to the bottom of my butt (as I wanted), and only my fingertips peek through if I don't have the wrist Velcro cinched; but it can be tightened to allow your entire hand to be free. I was a bit hesitant with the pockets (designed to accommodate backpack straps, which I wouldn't need), but, if fully unzipped, they are at a comfortable level for hand pockets (they unzip from the top). From the inside of the pockets, you can cinch the waist to make it more form fitting. You can also cinch the bottom. There is an inside pocket as well.

The YKK zipper (industry standard) is substantial, and covered by a flap that velcros. The hood cinches at either side, and also at the back for a custom fit. It has a really nice flap, anchored by some sort of enclosed wire, that protects your face in the rain. It rolls away under the collar if you don't need it, but I would always use the coat with the hood. The "jam" color is very nice and a bit unusual without being gaudy. I would call it a two-toned raspberry.

All in all, I am very pleased to get such a high-quality, expensive coat for such a great price at STP. Please write comprehensive reviews of your purchases

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. She likes it!

Purchased for my girlfriend for skiing, snow camping, hiking, and everyday North Idaho wear. It's a very well made jacket. Our only quibbles are that it's a little long for her, and that the main zipper isn't the water-resistant kind, which means scarf-destroying velcro on the storm flap. Pit zips would be a nice bonus too, but it's E-vent and the price was very right, so we're happy.
