It fits just loose enough to put another layer on underneath, so it can double as an outer jacket on those days when the morning is cool, but the day warms up. I ordered a small in a different pattern and probably will use it as a base layer, because I think not much would fit under it. I think that the arms on both the S & M run a bit short. I don't expect to be able to comfortably use the thumb holes on either.
