Most Helpful 5-Star Review

5.0 out of 5 stars. Excellent lightweight sturdy messenger bag

Carries all I need for my business travels near and far. Legal size files, ASUS ZenBook, Apple battery case, adapters, chargers, accessories. Plenty of pockets inside and out. In 35 years of purchasing leather and non-leather briefcases, backpacks, rollers, audit bags, professor bags, this messenger bag hits the spot. Can retire the ballistic nylon and leather bags as the new kid on block meets all my work needs.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Padded compartment will not hold 17 in laptop

Great bag, lots of room and compartments, but the padded compartment would not hold my 15.5 inch laptop. That width is just about 14.5 inches. I loved the bag so I ordered a padded laptop sleeve in a complementing color. The laptop can now go in the front unpadded space and be protected. Even with this flaw, the bag is awesome!

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Very good quality for the price, with some limitations

This was a perfect buy for what I needed. To be clear, this bag does not have a separate laptop compartment. But I didn't need that -- I just need to be able to carry paper, lunch, and miscellaneous stuff too and from work.

On the left side of the main strap is a zippered pocket large enough to house a credit-card sized ID. It's where I put my work ID when I leave for the day. It's easily accessible when heading into work. You don't have to flip the bag around to the front of your body to access this compartment.

The bag itself appears to be of high quality, which is to say it's a typical Mountainsmith product. The inside of the main pocket is bright yellow, which is great, because it allows you to easily see any items that have fallen to the bottom of the bag.

When the main flap is velcro'd and snapped shut, water doesn't get into the main compartment. There is also a zippered external pocket that fits sunglasses. Inside are a number of organizational pockets for pens and other small items. The main part of the bag could easily hold a 15 inch laptop.

But the most critical thing that made this bag fit my needs is that the exterior expandable mesh pockets on either end can stretch to fit a 32 oz Nalgene water bottle. I carry a Nalgene to work each day, and it wouldn't fit in a similar pocket on a Timbuk2 bag. It does on this. That, more than anything, sold me on this bag.

For the price, it's a great deal.
