5.0 out of 5 stars. Lamson Guru 2 Fly Reel

I love these reels! Dependable! The drags work well in all conditions in which I've used them! I never have any problems with them! I have confidence that they'll handle large powerful fish... if I can ever get them on my line! Pair perfectly with my 5 weight fly rods! Made in Idaho, where I grew up! My favorite fly reels! I consider them superior to reels costing 4 or 5 times as much! At recent sales prices they are great values indeed!

  • 1.0 out of 5 stars. Wrong "Mystery" Reel Sent
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Crash55 from Florida on Wednesday, July 12, 2017
Reel was apparently a "seconds" item that was sent to me. Reel was mismarked and/or unmarked.., thus the mystery as to what was sent vs. what was ordered. Still waiting for my refund. No response to my emails.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. The Reel Deal!!
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Troutbum from Kentucky on Tuesday, August 2, 2016
Hands down, Lamson reels are the best for the money, and this Guru is no exception! I own two of these (1.5 and 2.0) as well as a couple of the other Lamson reels for my larger rods, and am a firm believer that they are best in class. The drag is so smooth that you can put the fish on the reel and just relax and enjoy the fight. The fact that the reel has a sealed drag system also allows minimal maintenance (a good rinsing in fresh water) after saltwater use. Before purchasing this reel (because it is a closeout) I contacted Lamson Waterworks to see if the new Guru 2 will be spool compatible to the discontinued Guru. The representative I spoke with stated that although they are not compatible, Lamson is continuing to manufacture the Guru spool and that there are no foreseeable plans to discontinue making the original spool. I just landed an 18" rainbow on 6x with this reel the other day. It took several trips down river on me and the drag did exactly what it was suppose to. Thanks Lamson for a solid product and thanks STP for an unbeatable price!

About Lamson

When Lamson designers and engineers set about to revolutionize fly fishing reels, they threw out the existing assumptions and started from scratch. Beginning with a blank piece of paper, they re-designed, re-thought, and re-tooled fly fishing reels to achieve a crucial balance and optimal performance. Lighter materials like titanium and polymers took the place of steel, wood and cork. Simplified designs meant fewer components, lighter weight and amazing longevity. Along the way, Lamson shaved so much weight from the reel that larger, better-retrieving arbors were incorporated into the design. They topped off their list of impressive advancements with a high performance, conical polymer alloy drag system. The result? Precisely machined fly fishing reels constructed from space age materials that are so light, they seem to defy gravity.
