4.0 out of 5 stars. Ross Flystart 2 Reel Outfit - 5/6wtVerified Buyer Reviewed by redeyehawk from New Hampshire on Friday, September 11, 2015I ordered 2 of these outfits...one was fine, the other had an issue with the drag knob, very difficult to turn. I sent that one back. This is the most basic Ross fly reel available...still it is a very precision made reel, having an off-set drag system(very similar to a very high end fly-fishing gear company in Vermont), a push-button spool release, in a rugged, and attractively retro design. At a price most would pay for an average fly line alone.

3.0 out of 5 stars. Gears and clicker bits are plasticVerified Buyer Reviewed by Anonymous from Oklahoma on Tuesday, September 8, 2015It's is a larger then the traditional small size arbor, but is is more a mid sized arbor and not large in my opinion. The quick release button to separate the spool is easy to use compared to the tiny lever type. Aluminum metal construction is solid, however, the gears and clicker mechanism is plastic. The drag button is difficult to turn as it is small and is too smooth to grip with your fingers to get a good turn to the tight position. For the value, will do fine for a starter reel. Truthfully, as starter reel, you will unlikely never use the drag for small fish. The plastic bits probably not give you any issues, before you have moved on to an upgraded reel. Didn't even un-spool this yet. I bought this for my kids and since i will teaching them how to use the drag, this may be going back, but I'll think about it, as I only paid $35, it's worth keeping just a back up reel.
