5.0 out of 5 stars. Excellent rod for the moneyVerified Buyer Reviewed by Anonymous from Montana on Tuesday, February 16, 2016I bought this rod to fish steelhead in Idaho and salmon in Alaska. I have a Sage rod and it has been a great rod for me. I wanted a rod as a backup as I have broken a rod tip twice on a trip. I know this rod is made in China, but it fits together well, has a nice finish, a reasonable cork handle and solid rod guides. I used it on my last steelhead trip and honestly can't tell much of a difference in performance from my Sage rod. Now, this is not finesse casting. I am casting lead to get these flies down to the right zone, but even more reason for a rod that doesn't cost several hundred dollars. So, I ended up buying a backup rod to my backup rod, and I just take the two rods with me so that pieces interchange if needed. I have no complaints about these rods.

4.0 out of 5 stars. Good if on a budget or for a backup rod.Reviewed by iamamultitasker from CA on Thursday, November 26, 2015I bought one of these because I was very interested in how a decent fly rod can be sold for less than $60. I got the 9'6" 7wt to see if the Ross FS is worth a dinner at a good restaurant.
The first thing I noticed is that it has a big swing weight which makes sense since it is 6" longer than the standard 9' length and is also presumably made with less rigid graphite which would require more material to get to medium-fast action. The overall weight is not bad at 4.2oz with a fighting butt and I found that if I paired the FS with a relatively heavy 7-8 reel it came into balance and the swing weight was not as noticeable. The extra 6" will come in handy if wading or fishing from a tube, but It could be that the 9' version does not have the perceived weight issue.
I found that by slightly adjusting my casting style I could throw a shooting head 100' on level ground or about 80' of 8wt floating line. I personally prefer a lighter and faster rod for this size, something closer to a Sage RPL+ or Response, but as a backup or budget rod, this is not a bad choice particularly if you have big muscles (which I don't).
