He decided to finally try the Saucony shoes that I recommended. He loves them and has run in them a few times. Mostly he is using them for school, but commented that they are as good if not better quality than the expensive running shoes we have been buying. Great deal too! He wants another pair!

These and a pair from Brooks satisfied the need for proper support. I've worn these inside the house (I was told not to walk barefoot for several weeks), and they're quite comfortable. Better than the clearance price indicated. I'd buy these again.
