5.0 out of 5 stars. light hoka trail shoe

i wear 11 b USA dress shoe, size 12 Hoka Challenger seems to fit well . toebox is a little small, but not as small as the Valor.
lately i have been running with a thin toe sock and a wright double sock which makes up a little for my narrow foot.
this setup works in most of the size 12 Hokas for me . the Challenger shoe is supposed to be a Clifton one with lugs for trail running (Clifton one is for roads).
the great thing about this shoe is how light it is. the cushioning is good but not great - a Stinson atr and Mafate 3 has more cushioning than the Challenger. but for a 10K XC race this is probably my shoe of choice. there may be a problem with cushion longevity with this shoe. i read two reports online claiming that at 250 miles the cushioning packs down. since i am only going to get these out for XC races it is a non issue for me. 250 divided by 6 = 42 10K races in my Challengers. but for training XC i am sticking to my Stinsons.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Great trail running shoes

My second pair of Hoka Challengers and I can say they are my favorite trail running shoes by far - incredibly light and highly cushioned. The only draw back is lack of upper durability but I personally prefer the lighter weight.

I walk on the outsides of my feet and finding shoes that a redesigned for me can be tough. Plus, with a severely compromised ankle (missing cartilage), proper support and cushioning is critical.

The Challenger ATR fits the bill.

I would prefer if they were even more supportive but they are very comfortable.

The shoe is light although the tongue is very thin which makes the shoe uncomfortable when the shoestrings are cinched tightly. Compared to Altra, the toe box is tight and constrictive-similar to other running shoe brands. I'll have to buy another pair of Hokas to make my final determination. I only paid around $54 for these because are older models
