The box is 14" long, but I won't be keeping it. It's a basic clamshell affair. . . reel must be broken down to make it fit, small lure hatch cover does not close properly, rod fits well. I say dump the box, put the rod in a tube sock. inside a cardboard tube if you want to protect it; then you can put it in a backpack or behind the truck seat. The reel is functional, you need to locate the correct position in order for the bail to flip effectively . . . I prefer a more delicate touch, but it works and seems sturdy enough. The rod is the best part; assembles easily (to 4.5'), and is stiff enough to fling a plug and haul in a 4-5# fish. It's a set you could take along when there might be a chance to fish, without regretting it, or keep one for back-up. Small price for the advantage it offers.
