There are times in life, though, when we want a little more than the thin, ultralight sleeping pad between our tired bodies and the hard ground. We still want to spend time with Mother Nature, but we have a lower tolerance for discomfort, or maybe we just want a place to relax and enjoy our friends and family in a slightly more comfortable setting.
To connect to the outdoors in rustic comfort, look no further than the yurts found in Wyoming State Parks. The simple round structure is increasing in popularity for anyone wanting to enjoy a unique experience, close to nature, while enjoying the comforts of being indoors and away from the elements.
Originally, a yurt would have been covered in skins, but modern fabrics covering the wood lattice structure keep yurts breathable and weather-proof. The single-room structure places bunks on one side and a full size futon on the other side with a dining table and two chairs in the middle. A wooden deck provides additional outdoor seating and a grill for cooking. All yurts are equipped with electrical lighting, a ceiling fan and a heater.
Why stay in a yurt?
Imagine, if you will, a day of snowshoeing or cross country skiing followed by stargazing, hot cocoa and a warm comfy bed , surrounded by the sounds and smells of nature. Or waking up early in the summer to go for a hike or bike ride and returning to the serenity and coolness of your yurt. Or maybe you just need a change of scenery with the kids, so you load up the car with games and sleeping bags and head out for a sleepover. Whatever the reason or occasion, we guarantee you will be yearning for more.

Wyoming yurts are available at Sinks Canyon and Guernsey State Parks, and they can be reserved year-round. The cost is only $40 per night plus the camping fee ($6.00 per vehicle/per night for Wyoming residents and $11.00 for non-residents).

Typically yurts can be reserved 48 hours in advance of the staying period. We recommend you reserve as far in advance as possible in the summer, as they fill quickly.
Check in is at 3:00 p.m., Check out is 11 a.m. No additional tents or camping units are allowed. You must bring your own bedding (vinyl mattresses are provided) and of course your favorite gear to enhance your stay.
