The color is much darker than the pictures would suggest. Sizing seems true. Hood would definitely not work without a helmet. It seems to be a medium weight jacket, I'm guessing it would require some layering for very cold days (<20F). Really like the pockets and style of the jacket. Only complaint so far is that the main zipper on my jacket is very hard to get engaged/started. With about 10 tries to zip about 50% start with only one size of the zipper working.
