They may work well for someone with a very narrow foot rather than a medium. I usually order a size 9, medium width, as I did with this pair. However, after a few minutes walking around my house, my arches were in great pain and the shoe was overall tight with more tongue exposed than usual (loosely laced). I think the footbed is far too narrow for a medium foot, which misplaces the arch support.
