5.0 out of 5 stars. hoka with best rep for racing roads
Reviewed by bill from folsom on Monday, December 8, 2014
the hoka bondi series has the best reputation for racing roads among triathletes. . it is light and cushioned. size 12 seems to fit my 11b feet well for running, perhaps a little too wide but acceptable. i weigh 175 pounds.
it uses the old style blown rubber for the midsole.
the tongue is a little thin, and it has speed laces. there is a bondi 4 coming out soon. think the bondi 4 does not come with speed laces.
bondi 3 is not as cushioned as the mafate or stinson, has IMHO the same cushioning as the rapa nui, and more cushioning than the conquest, the conquest having the new lighter foam (i think it is called xmat). YMMV.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. As advertised

The Hoka Bondi shoes are as advertised, cushiony and great for my plantar fasciitis. They feel a bit sluggish when running. Definitely not a race shoe
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. So far so good

These shoes are so soft and cushiony. I haven't been able to run due to a knee injury for several months but I went running yesterday for 20 minutes and still feel fine. I'm looking forward to seeing how the shoes work in the long term.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Cushy, but sloppy fit

I currently run 30-40 mi/wk, and bought these in hopes of alleviating some of the joint pain that goes along with decades of abuse. The shoes seem well-made, and have the cushioning I expected, but the fit is sloppy, especially in the heel (even with the thicker of the two included insoles). The resulting blister is the first I've had in years (and probably spanning a dozen different running shoe models). I'll try switching to the standard laces and use a heel lock to see if that helps - otherwise, will just have to work on building up a callus in the hot spot. I have pretty normal feet, and suspect these might be better suited to someone with wider feet. I wear a 9 in most running shoes, and took an 8.5 in these - length is correct.
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Appendix 1

The only flaw I've found to date is the alloy eyelets seem a bit sticky up against the speed lace material. Eyelets should be made of a poly resin material like Delron. Then one pull at the top & the speed laces would be cinched. Although Salomon's speed lace system is larger scaled, it cinches better than the Hoka speed lace system. But now we're splitting hairs. Great shoe and "wide" toe box regardless of what any other reviewer says.
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. None finer!

A bit less tailored in the toebox area compared to the Stinson ATR for floating on pavement. For trail I recommend the Stinson ATR, for pavement the Bondi 3. You won't miss a step. Best cushioning, great breathability, amazingly controlled natural stride for neutral runners. Tread grips fine & won't wear down prematurely, ideal long life pavement training/racing distance shoe complements the Stinson ATR for off road perfectly. Get yourself a couple pairs of the Stinson ATR for trail & a couple pairs of Bondi 3 for pavement, you won't know the difference.

Compared to all other pavement shoes, these are rocket science.
